Start with the right clay: Choosing the right clay is essential for pottery making. There are different types of clay, such as earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain, each with different properties. Make sure you choose the right clay for your project.
Wedge the clay: Before you start working with the clay, make sure to wedge it thoroughly. This process helps to eliminate air pockets and creates a more uniform consistency.
Keep your hands moist: Pottery making requires your hands to be moist so the clay doesn’t stick to them. Keep a bowl of water nearby to dip your hands in as needed.
Use the right tools: Pottery making requires specific tools such as a pottery wheel, clay knife, and trimming tools. Make sure you have the right tools for the job.
Practice centering: Centering the clay is one of the most important techniques in pottery making. Practice centering until you feel comfortable and confident with the process.
Keep the clay level: As you work on your piece, make sure to keep the clay level to avoid distortion or collapse.
Be patient: Pottery making requires patience and practice. Don’t get discouraged if your first attempts don’t turn out perfectly. Keep practicing and refining your technique.
Experiment with different shapes and textures: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different shapes and textures. This is where pottery making can become a truly creative and enjoyable process.
Pay attention to drying and firing: Proper drying and firing are crucial to the success of your piece. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully and make sure your piece is completely dry before firing.
Have fun: Pottery making can be a fun and rewarding hobby. Don’t forget to enjoy the process and have fun creating something unique and beautiful.

The story of my tiny toadstools…
Every piece that I make is inspired by nature and narrative. Since the Middle Ages, the image of the toadstool has captivated poets, mystics and artists — throughout fairy tales and folklore the toadstool is synonymous with magic and wonder. But perhaps more magical than any fairy tale, the red-and-white fly agaric actually exists in nature. I hope to capture a bit of the fly agaric’s enchanted essence with my tiny ceramic garden sculptures and add a bit of whimsy to any beloved plant.

Hi LeRoy!
I wanted to send you a few pictures and videos as requested (sorry it took so long!) and also inquire about making me another custom stamp.
First off, I have attached 2 video and 2 still pics of my 1/2″ brass stamp that I LOVE! I have told anyone who will listen to order from you!
Next, I have attached a logo image for your review. I’d love to have a 1 1/2 inch stamp made with a circle around it, if possible. Also, if possible, I’d love to just have the SW Ceramics printed without the flowers in the image. Is something like this doable?
Thank you so much, LeRoy! Hope you’re well and happily making!
Best,Sara
